I have lived long enough to see fashion trends go and return. I have also seen many cultural trends go and return. I am still waiting for bell-bottoms to return. I will be sure to buy…and wear them 🙂

In God’s economy, we may see the same trends we see in the Bible repeat themselves. The word of God was written to show us how to live our lives here on earth, thriving daily to be a reflection of Heaven. ‘There is nothing new under the sun’. What has been done will be done again, what has happened, will happen again. Solomon effectively explains in the book of Ecclesiastes.
The statements made in the book of Galatians by the Apostle Paul resonate very clearly with our world today. The battles faced by Joshua in entering the promised land are very much applicable to battles Christians face daily. The daily realities of our walk with God, as described in the book of James, are as familiar as they were back when James wrote his book.
While we may not use chariots or make sacrifices or even act as they did in biblical days, we’re still apt to reproduce the same nature, same actions, same reactions. More importantly, the sins and adversities we face are just the same – “No temptation has overtaken you such as is uncommon to man…” (1 Cor. 10:13).

The temptation of Jesus presents us with the only 3 trick the devil has against us. He uses the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life to get us to falter E.V.E.R.Y T.I.M.E. Since we have mastered his 3 ring circus, what makes it ever still so hard? I say it’s that necessary part of us called flesh.
As long as we are inhabitants of this earth, dwelling in this fallen state, we’re susceptible to the devil’s tricks. The only hope we have is in Christ, who died to wash away the penalty and sting of sin. He could have been born and quickly died for our sins (as Herod would have had it) yet he did us one better than that, He S.T.A.Y.E.D…in order to show us how to live….on earth as in Heaven. For this reason, we not only survive this journey called life but thrive and fly it in the face of the enemy.
No temptation can overcome us, except that which is common to mankind. What has happened, will happen again. What has been done, will be done again.
I can’t wait to wear bell-bottoms again. 🙂
