This is a video about the debate on whether taxation is right. Jesus simply said we should give Caesar what belongs to him and God what belongs to Him (Mat. 22:21). Our lives belong to Him yet only a portion of our money goes to Caesar. In another instance, He gets a coin out of a fish’s mouth to pay taxes with (Mat. 17:27) after being asked why he and his disciples didn’t pay taxes. He also makes an interesting statement, ‘so as not to offend them…’. It was important to not create unnecessary offenses.
I haven’t found a viable argument for why taxes should not be paid. They cover several things which most of us don’t have the time or the expertise to do for ourselves. If your taxes are being misused then you have every right to protest. Otherwise, like with any other kind of giving, give cheerfully and enjoy the police protection, fire department, water services, roads, garbage services, military, and many other services provided through our taxes.
It’s a short and sweet, open and shut discussion but I’m open to opposing thoughts and ideas.
