You Can’t Cancel the Cross

Evolutionists have long tried to cancel the biblical narrative of creation. Atheists have long tried to cancel the very existence of God. Governments all over the world and throughout history have worked tirelessly to cancel religion as a whole. Many religious orders accept God but cancel Jesus as Lord and Savior.

In today’s divisive cancel culture environment, the power to determine what’s legitimate and what’s not has been left in the hands or fingers, to be more precise, of a very small percentage of the population that makes a lot of noise yet promotes very little to the general good of society.

The Root of the Problem

“For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,…” (2 tim 3:2-4)

This cancel culture environment was birthed out the desire to satisfy selfish desires that society either naturally rejects or are biblically impossible to accept. Humanism promotes a desire to elevate self above God. Once that happens, the highest desire becomes pleasing self and not pleasing God. Without a clear desire to please God over self, anarchy sets in and controls the narrative of society. Everyone does as they please and tries to force their selfish desires on the rest of society. We cannot afford to get caught up in this.

Alternate reality is easy to embrace in the solitude of one’s own emotions and flawed mental state. It is one thing to embrace abnormal behaviors such as homosexuality, transgenderism, bestiality, and so on, but a whole different story to expect the rest of society to do the same.

This passage of scripture causes many struggles yet you cannot get around it.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Gen 1:26-28)

Why is this such an issue?

  1. The fact that we’re made in the image of God makes us the most unique part of creation. We’re not animals and therefore couldn’t evolve from them. How many monkeys have you seen become men lately? We have reason, free will, innovation, and the unique ability to create things as God gives us grace, vision, and insight.
  2. We have dominion over everything God created. This means God gave us responsibility as soon as He created us. Dominion is not control, it is stewardship. Dominion also means you don’t alter or change the course or narrative of something. You steward it faithfully until it’s passed on to the next generation.
  3. Male and female He created them. Fruitfulness and multiplication does not happen without male and female creation in both humans and animals. We can’t change that and we can’t reengineer what God has already set in motion.
  4. We’re fruitful and we multiply by reproducing offspring in our own likeness. Monkeys birth monkeys. Man births man. We then subdue the earth. Subduing includes protecting ourselves from harmful elements, the greatest threat being the devil and the least threat being our own kind. We also subdue the earth by keeping it in line with what scripture directs us to be. We work to keep the earth pure and responsive to the nature of the Creator.

You Can’t Cancel The Cross

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by cancelling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. – Col. 2:13-15

The cross canceled all cultural reasoning and humanistic thinking. Essentially, Jesus was the first author of ‘cancel culture’. He canceled the legalistic culture of the Pharisees, canceled the culture of sin, and canceled the culture of death, hell, and the grave. He cannot be canceled! The death of Christ on the cross demolished all humanistic reasoning because His resurrection could not be humanly explained. His divinity could not be explained either. His cross cannot be canceled yet when we embrace His cross, we cancel all cultural foolishness and establish Christ as the only rightful cultural hero, on earth AND in Heaven.

You cannot cancel the cross. You can only embrace it and allow it to change and transform your life so you can cancel the culture of death, hell, and the grave.

I have a passion for all things Christ. I am in the world and not of the world and so I engage in political and social discussions as they cross my path. Can we resolve the pressing issues of society using the word of God and His power? I think yes!
