The culture and day we live in has been heavily and deeply corrupted by the dissolution of truth. The moment truth becomes relative, the doorway to apathy is swung wide open. If I can define my own truth then I can negate your truth and therefore live according to my own desires and my own definition of what’s true and what’s not. It is a scary place for any society to venture into in the name of free will, free thinking, and free-dom!
What Must Be Canceled?
The culture of self determination must be canceled. The counsel of demons, as scripture defines it, must be canceled (James 3:13-18). It is inherently difficult to sustain a culture where there’s no singular source of truth that’s outside of our grasp as human beings.
“It is inherently difficult to sustain a culture where there’s no singular source of truth that’s outside of our grasp as human beings.”
Even primitive cultures that did not know God the way we know Him today largely acknowledged the existence of a higher being from whom life is drawn and to whom life is credited. Cancel the desire or temptation to become self sufficient and self determining and run back to the supernatural source of all life and all power.
What Must Be Re-Established?
Cultural norms tend to either reinforce or diminish a society’s desire to seek after God. A culture birthed and run under biblical principles can always rely on those principles as guidelines to explain the past, define the present, and face the future.
Without a clear, consistent source of truth, no social system can be sustained. It is why laws are established yet even those laws must be based on what John Locke called “Natural Law”. His pronouncement was based on the belief that leadership and power is drawn from God, the Creator, and therefore leaders were assumed to be God fearing and gaining their wisdom from God.
We’re in a time when lawmakers and subsequently laws are no longer being directed by natural law, God’s law. When you have fewer and fewer leaders professing a strong sense of faith and a belief in God, it is no surprise when the laws they make seem to be going off the rails daily.
“A culture birthed and run under biblical principles can always rely on those principles as guidelines to explain the past, define the present, and face the future.”
What Must We Do?
We must raise leaders that are driven by Godly principles and directed by the truth of the Word of God. On this we must not compromise lest we fall victim to a culture that’s driven by apathy in the hearts and minds of those we choose as leaders.
We can’t act surprised when lawmakers pass laws, make statements, and issue decrees that go against everything we consider to be the way things should be. We have to spend more time promoting and choosing leaders who will act based upon the dictates of ‘natural law’, guided by biblical principles.
On this we must not compromise lest we fall victim to a culture that’s driven by apathy in the hearts and minds of those we choose as leaders.
Do all secular leaders need to be pastors? Absolutely not. This would convolute both the government and the church. Do secular leaders need to be believers? I believe, as much as possible, they should. It is the only way to promote a continuation of a government ruled by the people, for the people, and of the people of the one true God!
Therefore, if we cancel the source of their counsel, we cancel the counsel itself!
