I love how you mentioned that one of the challenges of online assessments is keeping learners fully focused. I completely agree with this statement and I see it daily with my online learners (6th graders). Just yesterday I was giving an assessment and the students were to have their cameras on so I could see that they were hopefully completing the assessment on their own. One of my students turned her camera off, put her away sign up, and wrote me a message in chat that she had to step away to change her cat’s litter and make something to eat. I also have several students who always refuse to turn their cameras on. It is very difficult to ascertain the authenticity of their assessment with that in mind. I have even seen and heard parents off camera helping their students with the assessment.
